Practitioner referrals

Refer a patient for TMJ assessment

TMJ Centre Melbourne welcomes referrals from dentists, GPs, medical specialists and allied health practitioners.

We provide focused assessment and care for patients with TMJ disorders and related jaw, facial, head, neck, ear and sleep-related symptoms. Our role is to help clarify whether jaw joint, muscle, bite, clenching, grinding, posture or sleep-related factors may be contributing to the patient’s presentation.

Please complete the referral form below and our team will review the details.

When to refer

A referral may be appropriate when a patient has persistent or recurring symptoms such as:

  • Jaw pain or restricted opening
  • Jaw clicking, locking or deviation
  • Facial pain or muscle tightness
  • Headaches that may be linked to jaw tension
  • Ear pain, pressure or fullness without a clear ear cause
  • Clenching, grinding or morning jaw symptoms

Some patients present with more than one symptom. Assessment focuses on understanding the pattern of symptoms and the factors that may be contributing.

Working with referring practitioners

We respect the care already provided by referring practitioners.

Where appropriate, we can provide assessment findings, treatment recommendations and updates to support continuity of care. TMJ care may involve dental, musculoskeletal, sleep, medical or lifestyle factors, so collaboration can be important for more complex presentations.
